Whether it’s that classic must-have bag, the timeless cabin of a luxury car, or a pair of head-turning heels, nothing compares to the beauty, durability and character of leather. Unique among materials, it actually improves with time. Qorium is building on this tradition, and improving on it.

Animal hides are inherently variable; from inconsistencies in thickness and quality, to blemishes and defects inevitably acquired in the lifetime of a living animal. Because of this, as much as 50% of a hide is simply thrown away. Qorium leather is grown in biologically-optimised, controlled conditions, so that every sheet is uniform, beautiful and defect-free.

Where traditional leather manufacturing is hugely reductive – vast energy and material resources are expended and discarded to arrive at a finished product – ours is additive. Beginning at microscopic scale, we add only what’s needed to create beautiful, consistent and durable leather.

In contrast with most manufacturing processes, sustainability underpins our approach. Qorium leather grows in biologically optimised conditions, nourished by traceable, ethically produced media, using only what’s needed – cutting CO₂ emissions by 87% and water use by 63% compared to traditional leather production.

We have solved the scientific and engineering challenges of growing real leather from a single cell sample. Our next step will be to co-develop tailored fabrication systems with our customers, so that in the future, leather will appear in shapes, sizes and designs limited only by the imagination of their creators.
